The Ryder Cup is a biennial men's golf competition between teams from Europe and the United States. The competition is contested every two years with the venue alternating between courses in the United States and Europe. The Ryder Cup is named after the English businessman Samuel Ryder who donated the trophy. The event is jointly administered by the PGA of America and Ryder Cup Europe, the latter a joint venture of the PGA European Tour (60%), the PGA of Great Britian and Ireland (20%), and the PGAs of Europe (20%).

The 2018 finals were contested at Le Golf International in Paris.

The Ryder Cup has become one of the world’s greatest sporting events. Every 2 years 24 of the world’s best players from Europe and the United States go head to head in match play competition.

This was CSP`s third Ryder Cup having provided services in 2010, 2014 and 2018, although our first outing to France.  Our involvement started 18 months prior being part of the project planning team working with all the stakeholders to develop the transport plan.

In order to support our corporate environmental strategy and the local economy, we only took key functions from our UK staff with us to France. We partnered with 3 local companies to deliver the 280 staff required per day to deliver the transport plan which consisted of:

  • 9 On Site Car Parks
  • 4 Park and Ride sites
  • 2 Bus Terminals
  • 2 Train Stations
  • Last mile check point operations working very closely with the National Police and the Gendarmerie National.

A key challenge working in France was compliance with the French Labour Laws which are very strict on individual health, conditions and working time regulations. A detailed level of planning and implementation had to be maintained in order to deliver both the service levels required, whilst being fully compliant and working to the agreed budget.

One week prior to the event, CSP were also asked to support the cleaning operations, from litter picking to refuse clearance, and were able to fully support due to the excellent local relationships that had been built up in the planning stages.

The event was a huge success with record numbers of visitors attending Le Golf National in France. A quote from Edward Kitson, Director of Ryder Cup Europe: “Team Europe were the winners on the Golf Course, but Team CSP were the real winners in France”
